For the first time in sporting history, a multi-team event was hosted in more than three countries. The Euro 2021 travelled to 11 countries, tracing the length and breadth of the continent.
The tournament was spread from Bilbao to St Petersburg, Dublin to Baku, binding diverse cultures and climes, ideals and ideologies.
But as countries around the world attempted to reopen their borders, a range of entry restrictions were deployed, from home quarantines to multiple tests along the way. Many of us still unable to meet or travel back home to Kerala were looking to enjoy the Euros on television. Thus the novel idea of having AKMG Euro predictor contest was suggested by Region 1 member Dr Shibu Varghese. Under the leadership of the AKMG President Dr George Joseph and Sports convener Dr Jamal the ball was set rolling.
The contest started on 2nd July 2021 at 10 am and gloriously ended on 10th July 2021 10 pm. The participants had to predict the Finalists and the winners of the tournament. The contest was well participated with over 100 entries from all Regions and little ones played a vital role in pushing their parents to take part. The winners were selected on basis of the rankling system based on points.
The EUROS saw some pre-tournament favorites like France, Belgium, Portugal and Germany crash out, making the predictor contest more interesting. After a well-played tournament Italy took the coveted trophy defeating the English at their home and presented us with our own soothsayers.
