KALIKKALAM 2022 – 5 WEEKENDS OF SPORTS CAMARADERIE & FUN
Kalikkalam 2022 was a huge success! Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, we were able to hold our Sports Meet and celebrate our love of sports and camaraderie.
The event kicked off on October 9th with throw ball, tennikoit, and dodgeball prelims and finals. R2,R4and R1took home the top prizes, and 310 members attended.
The following Sunday, October 16th, featured badminton doubles prelims, table tennis and carroms finals, with R4 taking home the top prizes. 234 members attended.
On October 23rd, we held tennis prelims and finals, with R1 coming out on top.
The last Sunday of the month, October 30th, featured cricket all rounds and finals, with R7 winning Dr. Viswanathan memorial Trophy for Cricket. A large number of members attended this event.
The fun continued on November 5th with badminton doubles finals, volleyball finals, and a Diwali Dandiya Dinner. R7 won Dr. Ibrahim memorial Trophy for Volleyball. All the 3 categories of Badminton men below 18, 18 to 45 and above 46 won by R4. Women below 18 R4 claimed the top position,18 to 45 age category won by R1 and above 46 by R7. 224 adults and 34 children enjoyed the dance and party at Occidental Jeddaf Hotel Dubai.
The grand finale on November 6th featured opening remarks by the president, torch-lighting ceremony followed by track and field competitions.
The fun game of Tug of war(vadamvali) was enjoyed by all, with R1 taking home the Pazhakkula for the winning team. The glamorous 4/100 relay was won by R7. The event concluded with a spectacular march past, with R4 coming out on top for its coordination, rhythm, discipline and participation.
The chief guest for the closing ceremony was Mr. C. P. Rizwan,Captain UAE International Cricket team. In his speech he remarked,”in sports we win or learn”. Yes,in Kalikkalam 2022 we have some winners but all of us are learners.
Overall, Kalikkalam 2022 was a resounding success!!
