It is my proud privilege to pen down the nostalgia of AKMG and share with my colleagues, the journey that started two decades back. I had the honour of being the Founder President of AKMG Emirates which was conceived during our trips to US for a AKMG USA Annual Cruise convention. We were really impressed by the togetherness that was created by AKMG USA which acted as the bonding agent between the doctor fraternity in America. After deliberating with colleagues here, it was decided that we should try to emulate such a platform in UAE. The result was the formation of the AKMG Emirates which was formally launched in December 2003. In the last 20 years AKMG Emirates has become synonymous with the medical fraternity of UAE providing a platform for interaction, family get together, academic, and professional betterment and for providing a safety net through medical insurance and professional indemnity. The 7 regions under AKMG have been extremely active with a constructive and competitive spirt which has helped in the exponential growth of the organization during the last two decades. One of the milestones in the journey was the adoption of a constitution and bylaw for AKMG Emirates which provided proper structure and protocols for the function. The regular change in the leadership at the Central and Regional level provided opportunities for new people for come to the forefront and lead AKMG to further heights. I pay homage to the two of the AKMG presidents, Late Dr. MK Ibrahim, and Late Dr. V S Viswanathan, who played major role in shaping AKMG during their tenure. It further progressed under the stewardship of Dr. K Radhakrishnan, Dr. PM Sirajudheen, Dr. Sunny Kurien, Dr. Hanish Babu, Dr. George Jacob and Dr. George Joseph to achieve great stability along with increasing participation. I will be failing in my duty If I don’t mention the names of Dr. MA Mohammed, Dr. Y A Nasser, Dr Abdul Latheef (AUH), Dr John & Dr Mary John, Dr. V Sasikumar etc. who played major roles in nurturing AKMG Emirates to the present stature. The various regional units in UAE are hotspots of activities throughout the year giving the opportunity to families to interact and engage in professional development programs. I feel very accomplished and satisfied that I could be one among the team who conceived the formation of one and only AKMG outside USA which has flourished and is destine for greater heights.
